LONDON - The Changing Nature of Protest
Since the start of student protests in the UK in November 2010, a huge number of informal networks have emerged: groups opposing public sector cuts, groups exploring the future of education, groups helping to facilitate protest. Their representation in the mainstream media hasn't caught up with what's on the streets. When carefully examined, an unusual and surprising demographic emerges. As one of the 3 directors behind "The Real Social Network", an ongoing collaborative feature documentary on the changing nature of these protests, I will share some of the personal stories I've collected of people involved in building these new networks, and what this might mean for the future.
