Brandon Morse A Charged Shape
The examination of large-scale naturally occurring phenomena has been a consistent element in my work; Climatic and geological events in particular have served as inspiration as they seem to be apt metaphors for more immediate sociological and human conditions. Natural phenomena such as weather, and geological shifts strike me as complex and chaotic, but also as predictable and inevitable events whose root causes are understood and codified. While caught in the throes of chaotic weather, for example, these systems seem violent, undeniable and beyond the scope of human intervention, though these systems are set in motion by an easily quantifiable set of conditions. Once met, these conditions result in an unyielding series of chaotic and destructive events. Through the use of coded systems built within the computer, I create a series of ecosystems in which the conditions essential to turmoil and turbulence are put in place. These systems find themselves in a constant state of flux; self-adjusting to random murmurs injected into the process over the course of time. Chaotic and unstable, they are on the brink of destruction: forces overlap, power changes hands and elements are churned under. The resultant pieces are visualizations of these processes as they happen.
'A Charged Shape' is an examination of the accumulation and release of pressure. A venting of sorts: the continual release of energy resulting in chaotic patterns and structures which emerge and fade, only to re-emerge as the process grinds on. Though it is not directly representational of natural phenomena, it aims to examine the root of these systems; that explosive moment in which pent up energy is transferred to the kinetic and let loose on its environs.
biography:
